The blackberry bushes around my neighborhood are kind of out of control this year and it’s amazing! I’ve been picking bowls of them - with a few odd stares and one random who asked me to eat one in front of him to prove they are not poisonous - people are strange. They make an amazing fruit compote which goes on everything (by everything I mean oatmeal, porridge, yogurt, ice cream, waffles, pancakes and granola). My latest experiment, banana blackberry muffins… oh yes. Free local fruit, ummm I should be giving you weird looks for NOT picking it… on second thought never mind more for me.

Strawberry and berry season is here, I really need to buy a little deep freezer so I can stock up for next year! If you’re freezing berries spread them on a cookie sheet and freeze for a few hours before putting into bags. Seems like a pain but allows you to pick out a few individual berries to throw into smoothies or recipes instead of fighting with a big ice ball of berries.
Also made some Strawberry Rhubarb Oatmeal muffins nom nom.

I’ve been baking muffins! I’ve never been a big muffin fan, I usually avoid the store bought variety due to my tree nut allergy but I feel muffin change coming on. It all started when I burnt my hand making stew in the oven (happens EVERY time) and needed something to sooth the pain. Overripe frozen bananas are great for smoothies and palm burns. Four unfrozen mushy bananas later I wondered what I might use them for … but what to make with a lack of butter and sugar? Experiment Muffins!!
